Port Blair, June 6: The Chairperson, Port Blair Municipal Council, Shri PB Murugan held a meeting with the Revenue Officer, Assessors, Tax Inspectors and Tax Collectors of the council on 5th June 2013 to chalk out ways and means to improve revenue collection of the council.

The Chairperson has appreciated the revenue staff for collection of revenue to the tune of Rs. 94.34 Crores during the financial year 2012-13. Murugan said that consequent on implementation of the recommendation of the 6th Pay Commission and cost increase in construction materials, there is a vase difference between the revenue and expenditure of the Council. He therefore stressed the need for improving the revenue collection and sought the cooperation of the revenue section of the council. He also informed that steps are being taken to establish E-counters in each ward so that Tax Payers could remit the municipal taxes in their respective wards and stressed on the need for house to house collection of taxes by the Tax Collectors.

At the end of the meeting, the Chairperson heard the grievances of the Revenue Staff and assured immediate action for redressal of the grievances.
