Port Blair, June 17: An attempt was made to rob HDFC’s ATM located at Junglighat in the intervening night of 15th & 16th June 2013. According to sources, two school children have been arrested in this regard and one among them belongs to the Great Andamanese Tribe.

Sources informed Andaman Chronicle that in the intervening night of 15th & 16th June the management of Hotel Pride Residency in which the bank’s ATM is located heard a loud sound. Upon checking the premises the management found a sink had fallen down. It was also noticed that the tap of the sink had been removed.

It was at around 9.30 am on 16th June 2013 after finding that someone had tried to break open the ATM, the Bank informed the Police. An investigation was done and CCTV footage of the ATM was viewed by the Police and two school children of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya were held.

Our sources add that the two tried to break open the ATM but were not successful in the first attempt. Later the boys entered the premises of Hotel Pride Residency and removed the tap to use it as a tool to break the ATM. After struggling hard, the boys could not succeed and left the ATM with minor damages to the machine.
