Port Blair, June 27: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh has approved the enhancement of attendance scholarship of Scheduled Tribe boys and girls students from Rs 10/- for boys and Rs 15/- for girls to Rs 200/- for boys and Rs 250/- for girls per month. About 5449 students studying in various schools of the Administration from Class 1 to Class XII would be benefited and an additional amount of Rs one crore fifty lakhs would be incurred.

Besides, a number of other concession and facilities are also given to ST students at the Pre-Matric stage. These include reimbursement of expenditure of text books/note books/uniforms and educative kit, free travel concession, bi-cycles, cooked meal on school days. A new scheme for meritorious students from rural and tribal area has been introduced to provide quality education at reputed schools at Port Blair in mediums of their choice with free boarding and lodging facilities.
