Kamorta, July 4: In what can be said as a rare happening, the tribal ladies of Kamorta Island today lodged an FIR against the Executive Engineer, APWD Kamorta for misbehaving and ill-treating them.

The incident took place today at around 11.15 am, when three tribal ladies Smti Nazia W/o Shri Junaid, Draftsman APWD accompanied by her aunt Smti Rukia and her sister-in-law Ms. Shamina visited the chamber of the Executive Engineer, Shri Subramaniam to enquire about the stressful behaviour of Junaid.

According to Rukia, the Draftsman Junaid working under the Executive Engineer was a kind of stressed and worried since past three days about the happenings in his office. He was not able to express and all he said is that he wanted to leave the job.

Upon this Nazia, W/o Junaid called up her aunt Rukia who is also the President of Sahara Tribal Women Cooperative Society and discussed the matter. Rukia then suggested to meet the Executive Engineer to enquire if anything has gone wrong with Junaid.

Talking to Andaman Chronicle, Rukia said, “As soon as we entered the chamber of the Executive Engineer, he got up from his chair and yelled at us. He never wanted to hear what we were saying. This was not just it. He pushed us out of his chamber, not considering that we were ladies”.

Soon after, the three in consultation with the Captain of Kamorta, Shri Nazir decided to lodge a complaint at the Police Station. But since the SHO had gone for a meeting with the Assistant Commissioner (AC), the three along with the Captain paid a visit to the Assistant Commissioner, Shri Govind Ram. Nazir tells Chronicle that the AC gave a patient hearing in the presence of the SHO, Shri Sahil Shamsuddin and called the Executive Engineer to his chamber. But to the surprise of everyone present in the AC’s Chamber, the Executive Engineer blasted out, not willing to explain or listen to anyone.

Upon this, the Captain decided to lodge an FIR against the Executive Engineer for misbehaving and insulting the tribal ladies in their land. An enquiry is being conducted by the Police Station, Kamorta in this regard.
