Dear Islanders,

As I assume the office of the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, I am honoured and humbled by the trust reposed and the great responsibility placed on me.

My predecessor, the former Lt. Governor, Lt. General (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM during his successful tenure took substantive steps for the development of these islands. I hope to build upon his efforts and ensure that the people feel that they are a part of the narrative of a developing India.

Andaman and Nicobar islands exemplify 'unity in diversity' and are said to represent a 'mini India' with settlers from various parts of the Country as also our indigenous tribes. The harmony amongst the people despite their diverse social, religious, regional and economic background and our composite culture gives us strength.

We may be nearly 1200 kilometers from the mainland but are a very strategic part of our Country.  Providing security and balanced development, while keeping ecological concerns to the fore will be a focus area.   Towards this end, I look forward to support from the Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Chairpersons and members of the local bodies, all political parties, leaders of the tribal communities, the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the local media.  I am also confident that officers of the defence establishment and officers of the administration will extend their unstinting support to the task at hand.

On my part, I assure you of my total commitment to the great responsibility entrusted to me.   I shall do my best to live upto your expectations and my obligations.

Jai Hind
