Port Blair, July 18: In view of the general threat perception and forthcoming Independence Day 2013 celebrations, the Lt. Governor of A & N Islands Lt Gen (Retd) A.K. Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM has reviewed the security arrangements in the Islands.

The LG was apprised by senior officers of Administration and Police Department about the steps being taken to strengthen the security environment in the Islands. In view of the vulnerability, especially of the far flung Islands, the LG has issued specific directions for security up-gradation so that commensurate infrastructure is in place to ward off any untoward incidents. Proposals pending with the Home Ministry shall be followed up at appropriate levels for expeditious fruition.

A follow up meeting in this regard was also convened by the Chief Secretary, A & N Islands with the various stake holders. Periodic reviews will be held and effective steps taken to beef up security to an optimum level in the Islands.

The general public of the islands have also been requested to be vigilant and report any untoward activities.
