Port Blair, July 19: Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, after assuming the office of the Lieutenant Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands has commenced his visits to various parts of the Islands, including those in outlying districts. In the first phase, he visited GB Pant Hospital, Haddo Wharf, Dhanikhari Dam, Netaji Stadium, Sippighat Agricultural Farm, Chatham Saw Mill, North & Middle Andaman and Car Nicobar.

During his visit, the Lt Governor interacted with and heard the grievances and problems of people from various sections of the society and directed the Officers of the Administration to ensure that proper follow-up action be taken to redress. 

The Lt Governor has directed the Senior Officers to conduct regular field visits, especially to far-flung Islands, to get first-hand information about the functioning of the Departments under their charge. 

In order to provide responsive, accountable and transparent governance to the islanders, the Lt Governor asked the Departments to tone up their performance so as to meet the expectations of the citizens and ensure overall development of the Islands. The Lt Governor plans to continue with such visits to cover other parts of the Islands.
