Port Blair, July 22: It has been reported in a section of local press that rumours are afloat among the public regarding impending terrorist attacks, presence of some terrorists in these Islands etc. and also that schools are likely to announce mid-term break for 15 days from 01st August as a security measure for Independence Day. All this is baseless causing unnecessary panic and fear.

General Public are advised not to believe in such rumours. The Police and security agencies are capable in warding off any possible threat and as a precautionary measure, the security of all important places and installations has been beefed up, more so in view of forthcoming independence day.

The people are advised to remain alert and cooperate with Police and security agencies and report anything untoward.

The Hon’ble Lt. Governor has personally taken a comprehensive view on all aspects of security and necessary directions have been issued to all concerned.
