Port Blair, July 31: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, met the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and handed over an amount of Rs 2.19 crores to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund as contribution from the people of the A&N Islands for Uttarakhand relief. This amount consists of one days’ salary of all Govt. employees of the A&N Islands as well as contributions of Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industries, A&N State Cooperative Bank Ltd. and individual persons. This is a token of contribution from the people of the Islands as reciprocation for the help rendered by the people of the country to the A&N Islands during the tsunami disaster of 2004.

It may be recalled that flash floods and landslides in Uttarakhand has resulted in unprecedented damage and devastation resulting in death of hundreds of people in the Uttarakhand disaster.
