Port Blair, Aug. 13: The First Lady of the Islands, Smt Suneeti Singh visited “Balika Niketan”, an orphanage for girls under the aegis of the Directorate of Social Welfare today. She inspected the facilities provided by the Directorate and also interacted with the inmates. The girls of the Balika Niketan presented a welcome song followed by a motivational song “Hum Honge Kamyab”…… which was appreciated by her. She encouraged them to aim high in their lives and also seek opportunities in Defence Services.

Later on, she visited Working Women’s Hostel at Dollygunj & inaugurated a Recreation Centre. The Directorate has provided a visitor’s room, a recreation room having a TV, Carrom Board and other indoor Games facilities. This was one of the long pending demands of the Girls which has been met. She also interacted with the girls of the Hostel and asked about their well being. Some of the residents of the hostel suggested some further improvements in the functioning of the hostel and she directed the Directorate Officials to look into their demands.
