Port Blair, Jan 23: The internal security scenario in the country continues to remain turbulent with several forces inimical to the country actively involved in planning to strike against the state. Intelligence inputs to this affect have been received and there are indications that the threat is potent.

Keeping this in mind, elaborate Law & Order arrangements have been made to enhance the security of the Islands in order to ensure that no untoward incident occurs especially during the Republic Day celebrations 2014 being organized at Port Blair and other towns of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Deployment of Police personnel all over the Islands has been augmented. A sharp vigil is being maintained at the Seaports & Airport. Similarly, patrolling by the Marine Police Force has been stepped up. All Marine assets have been deployed and directed to conduct random checks on all seafaring vessels. Coast Guard has also been asked to maintain extra vigil.

Local Police has also been directed to setup verification of tenants & other persons recently employed in various trades.

The security of vital installations and other places frequented by local residents & tourists has been tightened. Visible and effective police presence is being ensured at markets, bus stands, places of tourist interest, hospitals, schools and places of religious worship.

The general public is advised to maintain a vigil and inform the police about any suspicious activity/ person noticed by them. While it is the prime duty of the security agencies/ police to provide security to the citizens, an alert citizens add value as a force multiplier. While the security to paradigm shall be implemented in letter and spirit, utmost care shall be taken to avoid any undue inconvenience to the public.
