Andaman & Nicobar Command Joins Search for Missing Malaysian Jet

Port Blair, March 13: India’s only unified command, the Andaman Nicobar Command has joined the search mission for the missing Kuala Lumpur-Beijing Malaysia Airlines MH 370 jet. The operation has been named ‘Search Light’. Air Marshal P K Roy PVSM, AVSM, VM, VSM, ADC Commander - in- Chief Andaman & Nicobar Command has been nominated as Overall Force Commander of Indian Forces including from Mainland.   

According to communication received from the Andaman and Nicobar Command, a Dornier 228 of Indian Navy has been positioned at Car Nicobar from Pt Blair, which is awaiting clearance from Flight Information Centre Chennai. Another AF C-130J has been positioned at Kalaikonda and one is en-route to Port Blair. Navy P8I Maritime aircraft is also en-route to Port Blair from mainland. Ships from Eastern Naval Command have been kept on standby. The Operation is being done in coordination with Malaysian Armed Forces.

Meanwhile a Navy Dornier DO 228 was launched from Carnic at 1630 HRS. Search is on East direction towards Mallacca within Chennai Flight Information Region (FIR). DO 228 will launch search in Kuala Lumpur Flight Information Region upon receipt of permission. P8I and C130J are likely to arrive Port Blair at 1730 and 2000 hrs respectively.

 

The Malaysian Airlines had reportedly crashed into the sea off the Vietnamese island of Phu Quoc on 8th of March 2014.
