Impressive Documentary and Cultural show mesmerize audience

Mayabunder, April 23: The annual day of the Govt. Secondary School Webi of Mayabundar zone was celebrated yesterday with impressive Cultural programmes. The inspiring documentary presented by the staff and students, depicting the history and milestones achieved by the school was applauded much by everyone present on the occasion. It was a saga of courage, commitment and devotion shown by the Smti Mercy Lugui and Smti Kulay Lugui who took the school to the path of glory and success, facing the challenges.

The Chief Guest the Director of SIE, Dr. R.Dev Das in his speech said that the programmes presented by the school could match the standard of any of the best schools of the Islands. Appreciating the Alumni members and the villagers for the interest being shown, for the betterment of the school, he said that Education is a bipolar process in which the Society has a great role to play. He informed that the State Institute of Education is working on framing the syllabus and curriculum in Karen language also.

Calling the documentary a valuable source of information, the  Guest of Honour, Principal of Mahatma Gandhi Govt. College Mayabunder, Dr. R.N. Rath said that the teachers must be congratulated for taking great deal of efforts for bringing out the historical facts before the young generation, related to the Webi school.

Presenting the annual report of the school, the Vice Principal Shri R.K. Singh said that all the provisions under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan and Right to Education have been implemented in the school to create interest among the students for studies. He informed that the school has taken efforts to initiate contact programme by the teachers with the villagers. He said that the dropout rate has reduced now and the villagers are sending their children to the school happily.

The teachers Smti Saw Mallo(PST), E. Sumira Bibi (PST), Sheetal Xess (PST) and Smti Stephenie Pious(GTT) were awarded the Certificate of honour for their outstanding services. A souvenir was also released, which contained the articles of the alumni members also.

The veteran student of the first batch of the school of 1928 and the patron Smti Naw Phamya has also graced the occasion. The present young students availed the opportunity of interacting with the legendary Ex-student of the school. Around 1500 people from the village including the alumni members attended the function and enjoyed the beautiful cultural programme presented by the students. Shri S.K. Bepari (HMP) proposed the vote of thanks.
