LG Sanctions Prosecution of Five Corrupt PBMC Officials

Port Blair, Aug 31: Showing zero tolerance towards corruption and also as part of his commitment to come down heavily on corrupt officials, it is reliably learnt that the Lt Governor has granted sanction for prosecution of as many as five officials of the Port Blair Municipal Council in two separate cases. These officers/officials have been found guilty of committing serious irregularities. Based on inquiries by the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Administration, it was revealed that, in one case, four officials of the PBMC had deliberately invited a quotation for annual supplies of ‘Electrical Fittings and Appliances’ and issued supply orders to a firm as per the accepted rates of 2012-13 inspite of being aware that the fresh rates for 2013-14 had been obtained which were lower than the rate for 2012-13. They had gone ahead and procured the electrical items at the higher rates, causing loss to the Municipal Council.

In another case, the official of PBMC during the year 2006 in the name of implementing E-Governance project in the PBMC, provided undue favour to a private firm as well as wrongful gains, causing huge loss to the Municipal Council.
