Port Blair, Nov. 26: The 7th meeting of A&N Employment Guarantee Council (ANEGC) on MGNREGA has been held today, on 26th November, 2014 at 11:45 AM at Megapode Nest under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Lt. Governor. The meeting was organised by the Directorate of RD/PRIs. It was attended by Chief Secretary, Secretaries of various departments, District Collectors of all the three districts, Chairman Tribal Council, Teressa and representations of various PRIs.

At the outset of the Council meeting, Shri N.K. Sharma, Secretary (RD/PRIs) welcomed everyone. This was followed by a presentation on performance of MGNREGA in this UT. The actionable points and decisions taken during the last ANEGC meeting which was held on 23rd Sept, 2014 were discussed. The Council was apprised that MGNREGA scheme is being implemented in this UT very successfully and that in the financial year 2013-14, as against the target of 785000 persondays, 834307 persondays was generated, which comes to 106% - much more than the fixed target. The Council was also apprised that among the persondays generated, 48% was women and also that 100 days of employment was provided to around 2700 households in this UT, thereby abiding by the very objective of the scheme to provide 100 days of guaranteed wage employment to the rural adult who volunteer to do unskilled manual work.

Also, various issues were taken up by the PRIs and the Hon’ble Lt Governor instructed the concerned department and DCs to take up the issues in a time bound manner. The Hon’ble Lt Governor also gave directions to sort out all inter-departmental issues for smooth implementation of the scheme. The DCs and PRIs were also instructed to promote the scheme effectively in this UT and ensure that more and more people come forward to take up MGNREGA work.
