Issues Relating to Sale of Cough Syrup and Other Prescription Medicines to Children Discussed

Port Blair, Sept. 2: A meeting has been held by A&N Police with the private medical shop owners of Port Blair area on 01.09.2015 by Shri Atul Kumar Thakur, IPS, Superintendent of Police (CID) in the conference hall of SP (D) SA office. In the meeting, Shri Mohd. Aslam, DySP (SA), Shri Subodh Kumar Goswami, DySP (CID), Station House Officers of Police Stations Aberdeen, Chatham and Pahargaon were present. During the meeting, the issues related to sale of cough syrup and other prescription medicines to the children, youth and others through pharmacy shops were discussed. The owners of medical shops were advised not to sell any such items without proper prescription of registered medical practitioners. They were sensitised to inform Police about any suspicious person/ those who regularly demanded such items without any valid reason. They were advised to install CCTV cameras at their shops and get police verification done of their employees and also check for pilferage from their storage units. 

At last they were informed that precautionary measures and stringent methods should be adopted to check substance abuse and they were requested to co-operate with the police to safeguard the future of the children and youth.
