Port Blair, Sept. 18: Since the present Govt. came into power in May 2014, several initiatives have been taken for the development of Shipping Sector, Road Connectivity, Transport Infrastructure etc. of A&N Islands.  In pursuant to that, Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister of Road, Transport, High & Shipping, GoI has prepared 15 years prospective plan (2015-2030) for development of the UT of A&N Islands.

Out of the above, the Hon’ble Minister, RTH&S has accorded the sanction of Rs. 203.41 crores in Shipping Sector for development of shipping transport facility, Rs. 950.00 crores in Road Sector for National Highway (NH-4) in two lane for the length of 95 Kilometers in first phase, Rs. 100.00 Crores under Central Road Fund (CRF) for Construction/Repair of State Highway and bridges, Rs. 540.14 Crores for construction of two bridges (one each at Middle Strait and at Humphry Strait) and  Rs. 314.61 Crores for the development of Veer Savarkar International Airport at Port Blair on priority basis. 

Apart from the above, the Ministry of Shipping has further taken decision to release another additional amount of Rs: 1608.71 crores in shipping sector for its development. Above sanctions are in addition to the normal budget allocation of Rs: 3600.00 crores for A&N Islands, a communication from the MP Office said here today.
