Port Blair, Nov. 18: In a shocking report received, a Jarawa man under the influence of alcohol murdered a five month old baby boy in Tirur area by drowning it into the sea.

Reports indicate that the incident took place 16th Nov. 2015 in the early morning hours at Tirur No. 4, wherein the Jarawa man accompanied by a non tribal settler reached the place and took the baby away. The baby is said to have been sleeping with the mother when it was taken away by the Jarawa man.

Based on the complaint from the members of the tribe, the AAJVS filed a report at PS Ograbraj on the same day during late night hours. Investigation by the Police revealed that a man named Subramani ailas Munna, a resident of Herbertabad, South Andaman had provided alcohol to the Jarawa man, the previous day and persuaded him to commit the crime.

A case under 302 IPC and relevant sections of PAT Regulations has been registered against the accused. Subramani was arrested 17th Nov. 2015 and was produced before the Hon’ble Court today. He has been sent to Judicial Custody, while further investigation is on in the case.

The case of providing alcohol to a Jarawa man and provoking him to commit the crime points many fingers.  Whether the child was born out of a non-tribal, remains a big question, which also calls for a thorough investigation.
