Port Blair, Oct. 10: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM has directed the Department of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, A&N Administration to supply three additional subsidized LPG cylinders to the consumers of the Islands in addition to  the six subsidized cylinders to each household in a year. The directive given in the larger interest of the people is likely to ease pressure on the common man. Accordingly, a proposal is being prepared for projecting the total fund requirement to the Central Govt.

In the meantime, the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. has agreed for issuing new LPG connections for families having separate kitchen. In such cases, the IOCL shall release new connection after field verification and inspection of consumers’ claim through a third party agency. Therefore, there is no need for any concern by such families for the extra cylinders. However, the additional connection shall be released after the completion of Know Your Customers (KYC) forms being filled by the LPG consumers.

The Civil Supplies Department is receiving large number of applications from the ration card holders for issue of separate ration cards. Such requests are being verified by the officials of the department and genuine applications for separate ration cards shall be released after the field inquiry.
