Port Blair, Oct. 12: From the 1st of January, 2012 till day a total of 324 drivers have been found driving under the influence of alcohol and have been challaned. In addition, their details have been forwarded to the State Transport Service for cancellation of their driving licenses. However this chronic problem persists in our Islands and deserves constant attention from the Traffic Police.

The Traffic Police has now procured 20 modern breath analyzer machines to conduct regular check of drunken driving. These new machines indicate whether the percentage of alcohol in an individual’s body is within the permissible limit or not. The machine also prints out the exact amount of alcohol present and the date and time at which the checking has taken place. A total of 15 teams of Traffic and Local Police will be deployed exclusively for these checks with immediate effect.

All drivers are directed to obey the law of land and not cause their own or others’ deaths on the roads in the Islands due to intoxication.
