Port Blair, Oct. 8: “The Naval Chief has already announced that the project of Narcondom Island and Thillanchong Island will be taken up again with the Ministry for review. The selected islands are very strategically very important for us. We may opt for other islands if the review is turned down again” said the Commander In Chief, Andaman Nicobar Command Lieutenant General N C Marwah, AVSM, PVSM while talking to the scribes on the occasion of the 12th Raising Day of ANC.

The CINCAN insisted that the islands identified for the project is very important for the defence and hoped that the Ministry would consider the review petition.

Responding to a query on clearance given by the Command to the 50 berth Yacht Marina Project at Viper, the CINCAN said that the Member of Parliament had already called in his office regarding the issue. The Lt. Gen said, “Talks are on regarding this with the Service Headquarters and as of now no final decision has been taken in the matter”.

As far as security threats from China is concerned Lt. General Marwah explained, “I assure that we are capable of handling any threat that may arise. We are on the process of acquiring more and more resources to accomplish our task. The Islands and nation as a whole need not be worried about the threats as we are equipped to handle such threats”.
