A&N Police Issues Advisory To Citizens On Tinted Glasses

Port Blair, Oct. 25: The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has, through its judgement dated 27th May 2012, prohibited the use of black film of any kind on wind screens (both front and rear) and side glasses in all type of motor vehicles.

In compliance of the order of the Hon’ble Apex Court, the Traffic Police has launched a sustained drive against vehicles with tinted glasses. Till date, a total of 667 vehicle owners have been challaned this year for use of dark films or tinted glasses on their vehicles.

All vehicle owners and drives, who have not removed their dark films despite the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, are hereby directed to remove the same with immediate effect, failing which appropriate action under Section 100(2) Central Motor Vehicle Rules/177 Motor Vehicle Act 1988 will be initiated. The Hon’ble Supreme Court has also stated that if any authority fails to enforce this rule, contempt proceedings would be initiated against the officers involved.

Despite repeated instructions published in the media, owners of commercial and private motor vehicles are still parking their vehicles on the roadside during night hours though all vehicle owners have been directed to park their vehicles at their assigned parking places. It has been found that the commercial vehicle owners don’t park their vehicles at the parking areas mentioned in their permits. The Traffic Police is getting regular complaints against such illegal parking which causes inconvenience to the people living nearby. This also creates traffic congestion during morning school hours as the owners of such vehicles only remove their vehicles late from the road side. The Traffic Police has checked and initiated action against the owners of 341 vehicle found parked on the roadside in violation of their permit conditions within the PBMC area during the year 2011. This list of these 341 vehicles has been forwarded to Chairman (STA), A & N Administration for initiating necessary legal action.

Once again, all vehicle owners (commercial as well as private) are hereby directed not to use the roadside for illegal parking during the night failing which traffic police will initiate legal action after clamping and towing their vehicles to the nearest Police Stations.
