A&N Police Organises Seminar On “Citizen’s Police-Changing Paradigm”

Port Blair, Jan 24: Continuing its endeavour for better policing, the Andaman and Nicobar Police organized a seminar cum interactive session on the topic “Citizen’s Police-Changing Paradigm” on 24/01/2020 at DBRAIT Auditorium as part of the ongoing ‘Police Week -2020’.

Shri Dependra Pathak, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Islands was the chief guest on the occasion. Shri. Sanjay Kumar, IPS, IGP(HQ/ACU) andother senior officers of Andaman & Nicobar Police, students from JNRM, DBRAIT, ANCOL Colleges and members from media fraternity were present during the occasion.

Esteemed dignitaries and speakers, Sh. Sudipta Kumar De, Secretary (Law), Sh. Francis Xavier, Principal, JNRM, Sh. Utpal Sharma, Principal, DBRAIT graced the occasion as panelists.

At the outset, Shri Dependra Pathak, Director General of Police, highlighted the importance of healthy relationship between the Public and police, especially youngsters and set the context for the seminar. He shared his vast experience and stressed on enhancing community policing for maintaining social orderliness. He also emphasized the need for synergy between police and citizenry under the prevailing security scenarioand informed the gathering about historical context of creation of civil police force. The Chief Guest also highlighted the importance of advancements and introduction of police centric technologies for better policing.He also discussed the importance of fundamental duties which define the moral obligations of all citizens to help in the promotion of the spirit of patriotism and to uphold the unity of India.

The panelists during the interactive session informed that fundamental rights and fundamental duties runs side by side and reiterated the importance of fundamental  duties to promote a sense of discipline and commitment towards the nation. Panelists also highlighted the need of interaction of police with society and paradigm changes in the police functioning. Students from various institutions raised several questions before the panelists and a comprehensive reply was given by the panelists. 

The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks to the Chair.
