CEO Visits Campbell Bay; Inspects Polling Stations at Great Nicobar

Port Blair, Feb.16: In order to take stock of the Election preparatory works being carried out at grass root level in the entire UT, in view of the General Election-2019, Shri K R Meena, Chief Electoral Officer, A&N Islands Parliamentary Constituency, accompanied by Ms. Monica Priyadarshani, Deputy Commissioner (Nicobars) visited Campbell Bay Tehsil on Feb.15, 2019. During the visit, an awareness-cum-sensitization session was conducted in the Community Hall, Campbell Bay by involving all the Local HoDs, officials of all line Departments and Block Level Officers (BLOs) of respective Polling Stations.

While addressing the gathering, the Chief Electoral Officer briefed them of the various aspects for conduct of free, fair and transparent election for the House of People. The CEO categorically stated that the Election Commissioner of India (ECI) has promulgated many electors friendly services viz. Voter Helpline 1950, Voter Helpline app (Android), National Voters Service Portal (NVSP) and National Grievance Service Portal (NGSP) in order to facilitate various services to the voters and to ensure free, fair and transparent atmosphere to the voters to exercise their right to vote. He further portrayed briefly on all the services being provided by the ECI at length. The Chief Electoral Officer further informed that all services have already been operationalized, by setting up of State Contact Center and District Contact Centre, which could be easily accessed by the voters. He further instructed all the participants to make sure that all the eligible voters should exercise their franchise in effective manner to address the ECI’s motto ‘No voters to be left behind’. 

Later, the CEO, along with officers of line departments viz., APWD, Electricity and Police Authorities inspected as many as 12 Polling Stations at Great Nicobar Islands to ensure all Assured Minimal Facilities (AMF) have been tasked with, during which some of the discrepancy have been pointed out. The CEO, on the spot directed the concerned agencies to carry out all the discrepancies on war footing and submit compliance report expeditiously. He further interacted with BLOs of respective Polling Stations in a briefly manner and gathered information on submission of various forms for strengthening of Electoral Roll.
