Port Blair, May 1: The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Rayhas taken up the issue regarding the decision to grant of NOC for the construction of a CASINO and other entertainment facilities like 50 berth Yatch Marine with 30 rooms accommodation (3 star Hotel) to be developed by Indo-Malasian company for Tourists including foreigners at Viper Islands with the Hon’ble Defence Minister, Govt. of India vide his letter dated 9th April 2013.

In reply the Defence Minister, Shri AK Antony said that he is asking his Ministry to re-examine the matter at the earliest.

Port Blair, May 1: In his letter addressed to the Lt Governor, the State President, Shri Vishall Jolly while quoting the recent instructions issued by the Supreme Court regarding compulsory appearance in the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) to seek nomination against Central Pool MBBS/ BDS seats conducted by the CBSE, has requested to issue necessary directions to the Education Department to give proper guidance and coaching to the students intending to opt for not only MBBS/ BDS courses but also for AIEEE and JEE etc. for Engineering seats in various disciplines right from class IX. This may be done by the subject teachers viz. Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology to the students in their respective schools through special coaching. To meet this end, special honorarium may be sanctioned for the teacher engaged for the cause, he stated.

The students of the islands lack the appropriate coaching facilities for appearing in such examinations. Whatever facilities exist, are available with the students of Port Blair and fetches a student about Rs. 4.50 lakhs which can never be a cup of tea for everyone, he said. He has also mentioned the remoteness of the islands from mainland as well as within the islands that keeps the students not at par with the mainland students.

Port Blair, May 1: The swimming pool at Netaji Stadium is abuzz with activities as a large number of swimming enthusiasts are seen in this campus these days. This is because of the swimming coaching class that is presently underway in this complex. The Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports is organizing summer vacation hobby classes for the students in an assortment of activities in Netaji Sports Complex now a days. A vast number of students have enrolled themselves for different classes. However, the summer swimming classes are drawing most learners. The classes that were inaugurated on Apr 18 are going on in full swing.

Recently, the Director, YAS, Shri Lucas Robert visited the swimming pool to see for himself what the children have learnt so far. During his interaction with the swimmers, persuaded them to learn swimming safety measure as well as groom it further at professional level. He also explained the participants about the membership procedures and its benefits in the Netaji Sports Complex here. Some of the parents were also present on the occasion.

This summer season, children within 14 year age group are learning to swim in the swimming pool in four batches, said the Swimming Coach Shri Selvam. The learner has to be at least 4 feet tall to be able to be in the swimming pool, he informed.
