Port Blair, April 28: TheA&N Islands Private Practicing Doctors Association (ANIPPDA) conducted free “pap smear test” for women for early detection of cervical cancer today at Astha Clinic with the assistance of Inner Wheel Club of Port Blair. Dr. Krishna Saha, Gynecologist, Dr. Radha Syamala, General Physician examined the patients.

Cervical cancer is the third most common cancer in women worldwide. Women at the highest risk of developing cervical cancer are those between the ages of 40 and 49; with regular testing and early diagnosis it can be easily prevented and stopped in its tracks before developing into uncontrollable cancer cells.

Early diagnosis and treatment dramatically increase the chances of successful treatment and survival, rather than detecting the illness later on when the cancer has increased in size and may have metastasized to other parts of the body this is very promising in the usefulness of the “Pap smear test” as a diagnostic tool that can save lives. The test result of the patients who attended the camp will be intimated to them at the earliest possible said Dr. Ritika Gupta, Pathologist.

Among the others present on the occasion were Dr Rohindra Lal, President, Dr. Dinesh, General Secretary, ANIPPDA and Mrs.Komal Anand, General Secretary of Inner wheel club.


Mayabunder, April 28: A free Tuition and Coaching Centre run by Andaman Nicobar Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd. (ANCSMF) was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner, N&M Andaman Shri Sanjay Kumar at Lucknow Panchayat Hall, Mayabunder on 26th April, 2013.

Addressing the gathering Sanjay Kumar briefed the importance of education to the gathering. He said that at Port Blair one can see tuition or coaching centers at every corner, which are not available in these areas. He appealed to the students to avail the facility and make best use of it for their future. The DC also appreciated Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman of the Federation for his initiatives through the Federation, ANS Cop Bank, ANSCU etc.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman ANSCSMF said that after taking over as the Chairman, he thought that apart from spreading business of the federation, he has also some social responsibilities towards the people of the islands. To start with he initiated opening of such free tuition centers for the school going children. This will not only help the students but will be helpful to their parents also

According the a Gandhi Bhawan communication, a total forty Ranchi students of Karmatang and 35 Karen students of Webi villages have registered their names for the classes. PRI members, dignitaries, officials of federation, beneficiaries and general public were present during the inaugural function. 

 

Port Blair, April 28: The bi-annual Indo-Thai Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) between the navies of India and Thailand was conducted from 18th to 26th April 13 off the International Martime Boundary line between India and Thailand.

INS Bitra, a Fast Attack Craft of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, and the Royal Thai naval ship HTMS Phuket carried out the coordinated patrol alongwith Dornier maritime patrol aircraft from both the navies. The Coordinated Patrol between the two navies which was instituted in 2005 has helped increase mutual cooperation in the maritime domain. 

On completion of the patrol,  HTMS Phuket alongwith INS Bitra entered Port Blair for exercise debrief from 23rd to 26th Apr. Rear Admiral Werapan Sookgont, Commandant Phang Nga Naval Base of the Royal Thailand Navy co-chaired the closing ceremony alongwith Cmde Jatinder Singh, the Naval Component Commander of the ANC.

The visiting Admiral of the Royal Thai Navy later called on Air Marshal PK Roy, AVSM, VM, VSM, the Commander-In-Chief of Andaman and Nicobar Command and discussed areas of mutual interest. He appreciated the conduct of such exercises towards enhancing cooperation at sea between the two navies. A number of activities were conducted for the visiting ship and delegation at Port Blair including friendly football match, cross training visits, visits to cellular jail and other attractions in Port Blair.
