I am glad to know that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is celebrating National Press Day on 16th November, 2016. On this day, the Press Council of India started functioning to ensure that the Press maintains high standards of journalism while being free and responsible.
The media being the 4th pillar of democracy must enjoy the utmost freedom of expression. It has great and a vital role to play in educating and moulding public opinion for friendly and harmonious relations between communities and socio-cultural groups forming the fabric of Indian life to achieve national solidarity.
On this occasion, I take great pleasure to extend my hearty greetings to all the media fraternity and call upon them to focus on development of our Islands through fair, honest, meaningful and objective reporting of events and issues related to its people.
