Port Blair, July 27: The Andaman & Nicobar Islands have recorded its first death due to COVID-19 infection. The victim was a staff of the Revenue Department of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration. Soon after he was tested positive, the victim was admitted in the GB Pant Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment. The victim succumbed to the virus today at around 6.00 am. The victim was also diagnosed to have kidney related issues.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases are rapidly increasing in the islands, with cases being detected from inside the wards of the GB Pant Hospital. The Nodal Officer, COVID-19 A&N Islands, Dr. Avijit Roy has also become a victim of the virus after a strenuous service he has been rendering as the Nodal Officer. Apart from the Nodal Officer, political leaders and heads of Government Departments have also tested positive to the virus.
