PBGKR Suggests Measures to Overcome Shortage of Teachers
Port Blair, Sept. 18: The current allocation of teachers across government schools in A&N Islands for primary, secondary and higher secondary are at an all-time low. Data suggests that there is huge shortage of teachers in almost every school be it be primary, secondary or higher secondary. At present the islands have a shortfall of around 900 teachers in various trades.
The present scenario has led to many dropouts among school going children. Few who could afford have joined private schools, while the remaining have discontinued their much required education. This situation raises many questions about the current education system in the islands.
In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, President, Port Blair Guru ki Rasoi, Mandeep Grewal has given suggestions to improve the present education system.
The NGO suggested that the three different districts should have three different Directors cum Commissioner for education for each region. It is also seen that teachers residing in their particular district are not willing to go to the other district to serve, especially to remote islands. In such a situation, why not enrol new teachers with their willingness to serve in the particular district and region.
The NGO has also suggested for a district wise enrolment of teachers and willingness to serve in remote islands at the time of joining by the teachers. Better incentives and benefits for the teachers ready to serve the remote islands with mentioned number of years to serve was another suggestion made by the NGO.
