Port Blair, Nov. 23: The Non Gazetted Government Officers’ Association, A & N Islands has decided to organise various protest programmes on 26th November, 2020 in support of National strike called by central trade unions and Confederation of Central Govt. Employees and Workers, New Delhi. The central trade unions, employees’ organisations and farmers’ organisations have called for a nationwide 24-hour strike on 26th November to press their long pending demands and to protest anti-people policies of the Central Government. A meeting of central executive committee of the Association held at Crusade house, Port Blair on 21st of this month took the decision to support the national strike by organising programmes all over the territory jointly with Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU). At Port Blair the protest programme will be at Tiranga Park, Aberdeen Bazar.
The 12-point charter of demands submitted by the Confederation to the Govt. of India include (1)scrap New contributory pension scheme ;restore old pension scheme to all employees (2) scrap the draconian rules 56 (j) and pension rule 48 (3) withdraw anti-worker labour codes (4)stop corporatisation/privatisation of Govt. Departments (5)settle 7th CPC related issues (6)withdraw the order of freezing DA/ DR of employees/ pensioners and impounding of arrears till 30-06-2021,etc.
The meeting also decided to highlight pending demands of various categories of employees and some local issues during the programme demanding immediate action from the Administration. The local demands includes 1.stop privatization of Electricity, Shipping and Transport Departments 2.Ensure supply of piped water at least on alternate days 3.Rein the prices of essential commodities, etc.
