Traffic Issues, Curbing the Menace of Bootlegging and Drugs on Agenda: DGP

Port Blair, Jan 12: Twenty-Two days after taking over as the new Director General of Police, A&N Islands, Shri Satyendra K Garg, IPS today had an informal interaction with the Editors of Daily Newspapers. Garg, who is well experienced in traffic management and law, while discussing his priorities with the scribes said that his focus will be on improving the traffic management system, curbing the menace of bootlegging and drug peddling and bridging the gap between the general public and the islanders.

Immediately after assuming the office of DGP, A&N Police, he reviewed the Law & Order situation and traffic issues. The DG Police has issued directions to improve the traffic management, which is now visible at the ground level. Haphazard parking is now attracting the attention of the Traffic Police and in many areas like Bhatubasti, Junglighat etc. known for traffic congestion uniform parking is visible.

Since his taking over as the DGP, Shri Garg has been making best efforts to read the Policing in the islands and the issues of the islanders. He had worked in the traffic sector during the Delhi Commonwealth Games and had successfully managed it for quite some time even after the Games concluded.

Responding to a question on designating a senior Police Officer as Public Relation Officer (PRO) to deal with media queries, Garg said that he has already made a note of the matter and soon an officer of the level of Superintendent of Police, likely the District SP will be designated as PRO.

With his high experience of policing and priorities in place, it is expected that the islands will soon be witnessing a positive change in the police-public relation, which has been lacking for quite some time now.
