Port Blair, Feb 5: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Rural Livelihood Mission (ANIRLM) attached to the Directorate of RD, PRIs & ULBs, A&N Administration organized a month long capacity building programme with the support of National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR), Hyderabad for Community Resource Persons (CRPs) and SHG leaders. This capacity building programme focuses to build up and strengthen the federations of SHGs such as Village Organizations and Cluster/Block Level Federation in the Islands.

Shri. Vinay Kumar Jindal, Director (RD/Panchayat) inaugurated the training programme on 03.02.2021 in the presence of team of 12 Resource Persons from NIRD&PR, State of ANIRLM and Block teams & CRPs of Prothrapur and Ferrargunj Blocks of South Andaman District at Directorate of RD, PRIs & ULBs. From 04.02.2021 onwards, the teams from NIRD&PR scattered into the blocks of South Andaman and N&M Andaman districts to provide intensive training at grassroot level to the CRPs and SHG leaders on financial management of the Village Organizations (Primary Level Federations); formation and functioning of Cluster/Block Level Federations; Bookkeeping by SHGs & VOs and Auditing of SHG/VO records.

The Director (RD/Panchayat) in his address encouraged the CRPs to avail the maximum benefit of the training programmes and enrich themselves with the detailed knowledge about the scheme so that a strong network of SHGs and its federations could be established in the Islands.

Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Secretary (RD/Panchayat) has assured to bring up many more capacity building programmes for CRPs and SHG members for smooth functioning of the federations of SHGs and even plan for exposure visits if required. The Secretary (RD/Panchayat) further believes that with proper capacity building, the CRPs of the Islands will work upto their best abilities and develop peer to peer learning could be explored. He further reiterated that vibrant SHG Institutions would play a pivotal role for better livelihood opportunities and empowerment of rural populace.
