Port Blair, March 9: Innerwheel Club, Port Blair in collaboration with Pankh (NGO) celebrated the International Women's Day at Chinmaya Mission Auditorium on 7th March. Ms Veditha Reddy, IAS, Secretary APWD was the guest of honour. She encouraged women to organise programs like this and emphasized on the confidence and will power of the women that has to be strong in them. “There is no substitute to hard work. Women should do what she wants to and live their life to the fullest", she said.
Swami Shudhanand of Chinmaya Mission played a vital role in organising this event.
Number of Asha workers, 6 women traffic police, Reeta Devi from Social Welfare, Jyoti Chhatwal, Inspector from SAP were felicitated. Mrs. Rajni Ahuja had also provided a special yoga session for the women on the occasion.
Three special women, who had been working hard for the upliftment of women in Port Blair namely -: Mrs. Pritam Nanda, Mrs. Shanta Laxman Singh and Ms. Mumtaz Bano were also felicitated. These women though aged have worked hard for the women and children in Port Blair.
Various competitions like Rangoli, recipe and vegetable cutting were organized at the venue wherein popular artist Shri Gomasta, Surya Ratnam, Beautitian, Mou Chaudhury, GM Peerless were the judges.
Pankh has also introduced YOGENDRA KUMAR AWASTY Memorial Award to recognize his good deeds towards the society after his retirement as a civil engineer in the Indian Railways. Yogendra Kumar Awasty Memorial Award 2021 was given to Mrs. Karuppaie, working in Municipal Council.
