Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan Assures MP of all Support through NMC if the College Applies for PG Courses
Port Blair, March 9: The Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan has informed the Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma that the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) has not applied for starting of Post Graduate (PG) courses for the academic year 2021-22.
The response of the Minister was in reference to the Member of Parliament’s letter addressed to the Minister on 3rd Sept. 2020 regarding grant of recognition to ANIIMS in order to enable the Institute start PG courses in the upcoming session.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that he has examined the matter in consultation with the National Medical Commission (NMC), the apex body for regulating medical education. The NMC has informed that as per their records, the college has not applied for starting of PG course. However, NMC has taken a note of the need for Secondary and Tertiary care facilities in A&N Islands and has assured that as and when the college applies for PG courses, the Commission will duly process the same as per Regulations.
