Port Blair, May 5: Shri. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party has written a letter to the Chief Secretary requesting to relax the restrictions imposed in the Islands for the daily bread earners to sustain.
Bairagi mentioned that in view of the surge in cases of COVID-19 in the Islands the Administration has imposed various restrictions which include closure of non-essential shops. He said that it is a known fact that since beginning of the ongoing pandemic the poor are the worst sufferers. And the daily bread earners which include tea vendors, barber shops, small vendors, hawkers, fishermen etc. are the ones who are the worst affected.
The family of these daily bread earners completely depend on them for all their needs and with the ease in lockdown they had started earning again but the restrictions imposed again debarred them for running the business again even for their survival.
He requested the Chief Secretary to make suitable arrangements for the daily bread earners to earn something to sustain themselves by following all COVID-19 protocols and guidelines.
Bairagi had earlier also met the Chief Secretary with the issue. The Chief Secretary is said to have assured to look into the issue.
