District Magistrate Issues Notice

Port Blair, May 31: There have been allegations getting viral on the social media platforms about the exorbitant amount charged by a private hospital named Chakraborty Hospital for treatment of Late Goutam Roy. The deceased Goutam Roy had succumbed to COVID-19 at GB Pant Hospital after ten days of treatment at Chakraborty Hospital. According to an invoice handed over to the bereaved family of Goutam, an amount of Rs. 7,18,300/- has been handed over by the hospital which includes consultation fee, bed charges etc. apart from an amount of Rs. 84,000/- for Oxygen Cylinders.

Following the concerns that got viral on social media, the District Magistrate, South Andaman who is also the Chairman of District Registering Authority, South Andaman, The Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India has issued a notice to M/s Chakraborty Hospital, Dollygunj. The notice called for a detailed information on the issue along with clarification, if any, failing which action as deemed fit will be initiated against the establishment as per norms.
