Port Blair, Nov. 28: The first ever North & Middle District Open Chess Tournament 2021 was organised by Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) on Sunday the 28th November 2021 at Youngster’s Club, Keralapuram, Diglipur. The event was sponsored by Saravana Xerox Diglipur and Andaman Trade Syndicate, Port Blair. All safety norms for COVID were adhered during the entire tournament.
Mr. N.S. Stalin, Inspector, SHO, Diglipur was the chief guest of the event who inaugurated the tournament by making the first move on the top board in presence of Shri. Singaram, a leading businessman of Diglipur who graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
A Good number of players participated in the event in which Sarath Menon of Mayabunder secured first position, N Eshwar Rao of R K Gram stood second place, Dasrath Mistry of Shibpur & P J Eppan of Keralapurm secured third and fourth position respectively.
The top four players of the tournament were awarded with trophies, cash prize and certificates by the chief guest and guest of honour. Prizes were also given to best young player, best veteran and best women of the tournament.
Shri. H. Dinesh, IA was the chief arbiter for the tournament who presented the Arbiter’s report at the end of the event. As a goodwill gesture, the General Secretary, ANCA distributed new chess boards along with pieces to the Youngster’s Club for the promotion of game of chess in the vicinity.
