12,248 Families Totalling 39,487 Members Registered Under the Scheme So Far

Port Blair, Jan 18: A pan-India campaign under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ has been rolled out by different Central Ministries. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has assigned the week 3rd to 9th Jan, 2022 as ‘Iconic Week’ as a part of the nationwide celebration. The State Health Agency has observed this Iconic Week from 3rd to 9th Jan, 2022 in this UT by disseminating information about Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana in different schools of the Islands.

AB-PMJAY is a flagship scheme of the Government of India noted as the largest health assurance programme under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. AB-PMJAY aims to provide cashless treatment worth Rs 5 lakh per family per year against secondary and tertiary hospitalization care. The scheme has successfully completed 3 years of its implementation. Presently, 12,248 families (39,487 members) have registered under the AB-PMJAY scheme in this UT and are entitled for cashless treatment at more than 23,000 empanelled public and private hospitals across the country.

Meanwhile, as part of the celebration, Shri. R. Vivek, IEC Manager, State Health Agency (SHA), Port Blair  conducted orientation sessions on Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) for the students and teachers of Govt. Sr. Secondary School Haddo, Bathubasti, Port Mout, Carmel Sr. Secondary School and Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya. These sessions were aimed to create awareness about the benefits attached to the scheme. The students were exhorted to further inform and educate their parents and communities about the scheme. It was also recommended to the schools to organise master classes/activities on important days such as Universal Health Coverage Day (12th Dec.), World Health Day (7th April), Ayushman Bharat Pakhwada (15th – 30th Sep.) etc.
