Port Blair, May 16: Former State President BJP-ANI, Shri Vishal Jolly in a letter to the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration has raised the issue of providing immediate relief to victim family upon whose house an Old Tree had fallen on 30th April, 2022.

In his letter Jolly stated that a sad state of affairs prevailing over Pokadera Panchayat of Mayabunder Tehsil, North & Middle Andaman District wherein an “Old Big Tree” had fallen over the dwelling house of one Smti. Shanta Kumari, causing heavy damage to the house and properties.

He pointed out that the saddest part of the issue is that in the year 2020 itself, a conditional order was passed by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and subsequently the same was required to be executed by the Pradhan of Pokadera Panchayat. But until 30th of April, 2022 no steps were taken either from the officials of Panchayat or from any other authority to remove the tree which was prima facie projecting imminent danger & serious threat. Copy of the letter dated 10thAugust, 2020, issued by the Assistant Conservator of Forest, Mayabunder over which a direction was given by the Tehildar, Mayabunder to the Pradhan of Pokadera Panchayat to remove the tree in presence of the concerned Patwari was enclosed for the ready reference of the Lt. Governor.

Consequently, on 30th April, 2022 the said tree had fallen over the house of Smti. Shanta Kumari and still the same is lying over a major part of her house. They are forced to continue residing inside the same house as nobody has still provided any relief; he added.

In view of the above position, he requested the Chief Secretary to kindly take up this matter on priority basis, and provide all necessary relief(s) to the victim family, at the earliest.
