Port Blair, June 23: The Department of Rural Development, A&N Administration has been entrusted the responsibility of up-gradation of rural roads for a length of 96.647 km (48 Nos.) under PMGSY-II across South Andaman [04 packages (41.98 km -24 Nos.)] and N & M Andaman [05 package (54.66km – 24 Nos.)].

All the 04 packages of South Andaman has been awarded to different agencies and work of package 1 & 2 has been physically commenced at site and presently under progress. The mobilization of resources and machineries for the remaining two packages of Little Andaman is also under progress.

The up-gradation of rural road under PMGSY-II involves WMM, Bituminous concrete and strengthening of shoulder on either side. The WMM for a length 12 km is already completed and laying of Bituminous Concrete shall be taken up in fair weather.

The timeline specified by the MoRD for the completion of the project of PMGSY-II is September, 2022.
