Bike Rally Flagged Off as Part of the Inauguration

Port Blair, Oct. 3: Every year the wildlife week is celebrated from 2nd to 8th October coinciding with the birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The aim of celebrating wildlife week starting from the birthday of the Father of our Nation is to symbolize empathy towards the wildlife, which has no voice of its own.

The 68th wildlife week, 2022 in Andaman & Nicobar Islands was inaugurated by flagging off bicycle Rally by the Commissioner-cum-secretary (Environment & Forests), Smti. Nandini Paliwal, IAS on 03rd October, 2022. 50 bicycle riders, 20 school students, volunteers from Andaman Avian Club and staff of Forest Department joined the rally to disseminate the message of wildlife conservation among the masses.

The main attraction of the rally was the Dolphin Tableau, prepared by Forest Department based on the theme of 68th Wildlife Week. The formal opening ceremony was held at Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School, Port Blair wherein 200 students, officers from various departments and locals attended the function.

The Chief Guest of the occasion, Smti. Nandini Paliwal, IAS congratulated Forest Department for organizing the Wildlife Week and requested the students and general public to participate for the cause of conservation of wildlife.

The Guest of Honour Smt. Veditha Reddy, IAS, Secretary (Education/Sports), Adhyakhsa (Zilla Parishad), Smti. Pramila Kumari, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Dr. R.S.C. Jayaraj, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, Dr. S. Senthil Kumar, Conservator of Forests, Shri Sanjay Waradkar, IFS and other officers of the Forest Department also attended the opening ceremony.

The week long activities are being organized by the Department of Environment & Forests across the Islands with valedictory programme on 8th October, 2022 in which various activities ranging from bird watching, webinar, essay competition, painting competition, quiz programme and public meeting, etc., shall be organized.
