Port Blair, Nov. 22: The Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has expressed gratitude towards the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India for considering his request and selecting Andaman & Nicobar Islands as a venue to host one of the G20 meetings.

In a letter address to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, the Member of Parliament mentioned that this is heartening to know that India will undertake the Presidency of G20 meeting for one year beginning from December 1, 2022 to November 20, 2023 and a total of 200 G20 meetings are likely to take place under India’s Presidency.

He added that he has learnt that Andaman & Nicobar Islands will also be a venue to host one of the G20 meetings, which is exciting news for the entire Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

He pointed out that on August 22, 2019, he had requested the Hon’ble Prime Minister to hold one of the conferences of the G20 in Andaman & Nicobar Islands as he strongly felt that this will prove to be a game changer to bring about socio-economic and geo-economic developments in these Islands.

In this regard the Member of Parliament had also received a reply of his letter from the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, following which on September 19, 2019 the Member of Parliament had received a letter from Shri. A. Gitesh Sarma, Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi who had acknowledged receipt of his letter on this subject in which it was mentioned that at the time of deciding a venue for the G20 meetings in 2022 under India's G20 Chairship, the suggestion of Member of Parliament on holding meetings of G20 in Andaman & Nicobar Island will be kept in mind.

Now, when Andaman & Nicobar Islands have been selected as a venue to hold one of the conferences of the G20, the Member of Parliament has extended his gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India for considering his request and giving such honour to Andaman & Nicobar Islands to hold the International Level Conference.

The MP added that Andaman & Nicobar Islands has played a very integral and dominant role in the freedom struggle of India and to our honour the first Indian Flag was hoisted in these Islands by Netaji Subash Chandra Bose on 30th December 1943.
