Port Blair, Jan. 29: Transport Department of A&N Administration is deeply concerned about the growth in the number of road accident and fatalities in recent years. In order to achieve a significant improvement in road safety, Transport Department is taking pro- active measures to review standards pertaining to road safety. As a part of this, Transport Department in coordination with Traffic Police regularly conducts enforcement drives in these Islands to check for violation of traffic laws. It has been reported that many commercial vehicle owners fail to comply with the rules and provisions of Motor Vehicle Act and thereby violating the permit conditions.

In view of the permit violations, State Transport Authority has now standardized the quantum of penalties for various kinds of permit violations such as driving under the influence of alcohol, unauthorized parking, delay in applying for permit, plying without permit, etc. The penal amount for various permit violations has been uploaded in the Department's website i.e. transport.and.nic.in  and also published in the Directorate's Notice Board to make the citizen aware about the penal amount for permit violations.

State Transport Authority has further advised all the commercial vehicle owners to comply with the permit conditions and Motor Vehicle Act, failing which, the case will be dealt strictly under the provisions of law in force.
