Port Blair, May 23: The Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) is an initiative to promote sustainable living by changing individual lifestyles. The initiative focuses on seven themes, which include food, energy, transport, water, waste, nature, and purchasing. The Youth Parliament on LiFE will provide a platform for young people to voice their opinions and ideas on various contemporary issues of environment.

It will also promote leadership, critical thinking, and teamwork skills among young people. The arguments made by the students can be compiled in a video and shared with to promote awareness and action on sustainable living. The Youth Parliament on LiFE is an initiative to involve young people in the discussion and debate on sustainable living. It will create awareness and promote a sense of responsibility towards the environment among young people.

As per the direction of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, ZSI conducted Phase-I selection of the Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) and Youth Parliament on 8th May 2023. More than twenty students from Pondicherry University, Andaman Law College, Tagore Government College of Education participated.  Among these, two students were selected for Stage-II selection (Miss Susmita Singh, IV year BA, LLB, Andaman Law College; Mr. Ajeesh Prakash. B.Ed II year).  The selected students will be attending the Phase - II selection which will be held during 31st May 2023 – 3rd June 2023 at Indian Institute of Forests Management, Bhopal.  The final five students will be selected after Stage II and will be given the ‘Youth Icon Award’ on 5th June, 2023 on World Environment Day.  Prof. P.M. Mohan, Prof. R. Mohanraju, Pondicherry University; Dr. Lal Ji Singh, Botanical Survey of India; Dr. Prashanth Bhadu, Andaman Law College have served as jury member for Phase-I selection.
