Port Blair, May 24: The concept of ‘Lifestyle for the Environment (LiFE) introduced at COP 26 in Glasgow on 1st November 2021, calls upon the global community of individuals and institutions to drive LiFE as an international mass movement towards “mindful and deliberate utilisation, instead of mindless and destructive consumption” to protect and preserve the environment. LiFE puts individual and collective duty on everyone to live a life that is in tune with Earth and does not harm it.

As part of this initiative, the Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism has chalked out various events in coordination with Tourism Stakeholders to carry forward the mission’s objective. Accordingly, a cleanliness drive and sapling plantation was conducted at Andaman Teal House yesterday. The Officers and staff attached with Directorate of IP&T and other units actively participated in the drive.

Meanwhile, a beach cleaning programme was carried out today at Rangachang in association with Gram Pradhan, Beodnabad Panchayat. During the drive, a stretch of about 40-50 mtrs. of the beach area were cleaned and the collected debris were sent to the nearby segregation center for its further disposal. Similar programmes will be organized at different places by the Department till June 6, 2023.
