Port Blair, May 24: Shri D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committing today (24.05.2023) met the Director General of Police (i/c) and submitted a letter urging him to take stringent action against the police official involved in the brutal physical attack on a Forest Department Mazdoor at Diglipur. The victim mazdoor Shri Umesh Kumar is presently admitted in the GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair with serious injury to his right eye. 

CPI (M) Secretary informed the DGP (i/c) that a police official of Diglipur police station in civil dress entered the residence of Shri Umesh Kishen, Forest Mazdoor at Forest Camp area, Aerial Bay at around 2 p.m on 17th May, 2023, beaten him up brutally in front of his wife and daughter and others without informing him of the reason for it.  Thereafter, he was taken to the police station and the physical attack reportedly continued in the police vehicle also.   

He was allowed to seek medical treatment at CHC Diglipur only when his co-workers and the union leaders reached police station. On examination of his injuries, the doctor admitted him to the hospital. Subsequently, he was referred to GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair.  He was airlifted to Port Blair.  

DGP (i/c) assured the CPI (M) Secretary that action as per law will be taken against the police official concerned.
