Port Blair, July 30: In yet another step towards empowering the students of Higher Education Institutions, the Directorate of Industries in association with Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM) organized a Startup Boot Camp, at the Gallery of the College Campus. The program was conceptualized under the support and guidance of Shri Abhishek Bhukal, Director of Industries.

The Startup Boot camp, drawing a diverse crowd of around 150 students from various disciplines, provided a comprehensive overview of the startup ecosystem, focusing on Government support, funding opportunities, and potential for innovative ventures in sectors like disaster management and climate etc.

Shri Hemant Kumar Sharma, Principal of JNRM who was the chief guest of the event, emphasized on the importance of self employment  in the current scenarios by forming startups. Shri Ajit Anand, Deputy Director (Industries), highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship and startups in the Islands. This was followed by insightful remarks and examples of startups by Shri C. Raj, Director, RSETI, State Bank of India (SBI). The HOD’s and faculties of various Departments of the College namely Smti. Pearl Devdas, Dr. K.V. Ramana Murthy and Smti Ajitha also participated in the event.

The technical sessions commenced with a presentation by Shri P.K. Ummer Farooq, LDM, SBI on ‘Government Support and Funding for Startups and Allied Activities through Financial Institutions’. The session provided valuable information on the financial assistance available to budding entrepreneurs through Banks.

Earlier, the Nodal Officer of Startup, Smti S. Sunitha Kumari welcomed the gathering.  Dr. E. Yuvraj, Associate  Professor of Disaster Management from Pondicherry University, Port Blair Campus deliberated on the ‘Scope of Startups in Disaster Management, Climate, and Allied Sectors in Andaman and Nicobar Islands’. His presentation underscored the unique opportunities for startups in the region, particularly in addressing local environmental challenges, Waste Management etc.

The event also featured inspiring success stories from local startups wherein, Shri S. Sanjeev, Founder of M/s Sriko TI Group shared their journeys, offering insights into the challenges and successes they encountered along the way. Their stories served as a source of inspiration for the aspiring entrepreneurs in attendance.

The Boot camp concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Shri Shahid Khan, Industries Promotion Officer.  The Startup Boot camp 2024 at JNRM has set a strong foundation for fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among students, equipping them with the necessary tools and knowledge to navigate the startup ecosystem successfully.
