Port Blair, Aug 1: Shri Amit Kale, IAS, Secretary, PBMC, conducted an inspection of Ward No. 4 and the Dry Resource Center at RGT Road, accompanied by the Sanitary Officer, JE (SWM) and the area Sanitary Inspector. The focus of the inspection was to inspect and address sanitation issues in the area. During the visit, the Secretary observed issues of garbage being discarded in front of shops in market area. The Secretary expressed serious concern over this issue and instructed the Sanitary Inspector to ensure strict adherence to SWM regulations. The Inspector was directed to enforce these regulations rigorously to prevent improper waste disposal and to maintain a clean and hygienic environment. Directions were also issued to ensure the primary collection points are cleaned on daily basis in an efficient manner.

At the DRC, the Secretary gave directions for regular and thorough cleaning and maintenance of the facility, emphasized the need for improved worker welfare and called for enhanced waste segregation practices. The Secretary also directed the vendor to increase bailing capacity and a more frequent bailing process to manage waste effectively. These measures aim to expedite dry waste transfer to the mainland, thereby improving overall waste management practices and ensuring a more efficient and hygienic operation at the DRC.
