Port Blair, Aug 2: The Model Career Centre (Employment Exchange), Directorate of Employment & Training conducted a Career Guidance Programme today at Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Garacharma, Port Blair. The career guidance programme was aimed at equipping students with valuable insights into choosing appropriate career paths and the significance of skill training.
The Employment Officer, Smti Sapna Priya, elucidated the process of becoming a Civil Servant, while addressing the gathering she mentioned that the sole objective of this programme is to motivate the aspirant students of these Islands to achieve success in civil services exam besides excelling in other competitive exams. She expounded that the civil services exam is considered as one of the challenging exams in the country and briefed comprehensively about the pattern of civil services exam i.e., preliminary, mains and interview being conducted by the UPSC. She stressed that one must start preparation in advance strictly as per syllabus provided by the UPSC to clear preliminary and mains exams. The Officer advised the students to follow newspapers especially editorial columns and NCERT text books from 6th Std. to 12th Std. To succeed in the exam, one must have a proper plan and executable preparation strategy, she remarked, emphasizing that the civil services exam does not only test academic brilliance as per the syllabus, but also tests your personality traits viz. perseverance, adaptive skills, courage and positivity.
Smti K. Binu, Vocational Guidance Officer, Model Career Centre emphasized the critical aspects of making informed career choices. Students were encouraged to consider their interests, strength, and future goals while selecting a career path. The students were also sensitized to register on National Career Service (NCS) Portal.
During the programme, the guest speaker, Smti Vimla Venkateshwar highlighted about various vocational courses and its scope of employment opportunities while considering for career.
The Principal, Smti Jyothi expressed gratitude for the conduct of such beneficial program. A total of 59 students participated in the programme.
