Port Blair, Sept. 5: The Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration with the financial assistance from National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad organized two Workshops on ‘Creation of Fish Farmers Producers Organizations (FFPOs)’ for the Fishers, Fish Farmers, Entrepreneurs, members of Fisheries Associations, Unemployed Youth and other Stakeholders of the Department of Fisheries on Sept. 4 & 5, 2024 at Fish Landing Centre, Junglighat and Guptapara respectively. About 100 Fishers, Fish Farmers, Members of Fisheries Association etc. participated in these Workshops.
Shri Abhishek Gulia, Director of Fisheries, A&N Administration graced the inaugural session of the workshop on Sept.4 at Fish Landing Centre, Junglighat and stressed on the importance of forming an FFPO in the District for upliftment of the fishermen community of these Islands and also assured all possible support of the Department of Fisheries in this endeavour.
Dr. K. Gopal, Joint Director (Fisheries) highlighted the current situation of the fishermen community and emphasized on the need for FFPO. He also dealt with technical aspects in forming the same. Smti V Sheeja, Deputy Director (Fisheries) and Shri G Amalatheeban, Assistant Director of Fisheries, South Andaman District were also present during the inaugural session.
During the workshop at FLC, Guptapara, Shri Prakash Adhikari, Zilla Parishad Member, Guptapara encouraged the fishers to come forward and take initiatives for formation of FFPOs for upliftment of the fishermen community. Shri Durlabh Das, Pradhan, Guptapara and other PRI members and fishermen representatives were also present during the program.
The technical session of the workshops was delivered by Officials of the Extension and Training Wing of Department of Fisheries and Office of Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Port Blair.
During the workshop, Shri S.U. Maheswar Rao, Governing Body Member, NFDB, Hyderabad highlighted the current initiatives taken by National Fisheries Development Board and Department of Fisheries for the Welfare of Fishermen community of these Islands.
